Stick with Garmin, Tom Tom, or Magellan. The software on this unit is terrible. Problem, part not available on Amazon. Don't try it if you don't have a lot of patience and an IT degree. Item arrived missing parts. Called and was told not available but would give me a credit on Amazon. Difficult to use and very confusing.

We were able to locate not only nearby attractions, restaurants, etc., but we were also able to search for particular restaurants (i.e. As long as you do not turn off the unit main power (sliding switch on the bottom) and use rather the power button on the front of the machine (press to turn on, press and hold to turn off), you never have to set the clock/date.Overall, I'm very impressed with this unit and would buy it again.
The FM transmitter works, but the signal is weaker than what users may be used to from various iPod devices. It has helped me out numerous times already in the 4 months I've been using it, both on short trips and also on an extended drive from Michigan to Texas, a state I'd never before visited. :-)The experience of other reviewers with the unit taking forever to locate the satellites is not one that I have shared. If I did intentionally take a different route than that prescribed by the unit, it quickly adopted my new route and recalculated. I cannot compare it to a TomTom or Garmin unit because I simply do not have the experience.That said.I've been very pleased with this GPS unit. By putting in destination addresses (including pre-booked hotel stops, etc)., the GPS actually helped ensure I made the correct turns even when road signage was poor or missing. This worked well even in Canada.The Point Of Interest search feature was also very, very handy. It made for a much more relaxing trip.The features are numerous, and on my unit they all work very well with two exceptions - the real-time traffic info and the Bluetooth service for a cellphone.
Within a minute, often within seconds of being powered up, the GPS knows where I am and the direction in which I'm traveling. I should begin with a caveat - this is the first GPS unit I've owned or had any extensive experience handling. I imagine all GPS units provide this kind of service, but it is certainly comforting when you're in unfamiliar territory. I live in a small city with no traffic issues, and I prefer a Bluetooth earpiece when driving.

In the bay area there is lot of interference as there are no unused frequencies.
The fm-transmitter has pretty low quality, the battey probably lasts for 30 min with full charge. The good: maps, route,player, sd slot, and "re-route" in case u miss a turn. Yea its a reliable product however, some of the features dont work quite as good. If the battery goes out, which always happens, u have to reset the time date etc.
My son wound up with the Garmin 360 (Garmin has password protection. This is amazing, since they have a great GPS, but hey, this old Marine needs support. As I said, he didn't 'sell' me, he 'helped' me. The phone # on their site led to dead ends and when I emailed the address on their site, I did not even receive the usual automated response. Audible turn directions did work in this one but the "Communication" mode failed, as did the first one. If it's stolen, it's useless to the perp). I spent several hours trying to get it to work (Sanyo's customer support seems to be non-existent). I'll review it later).
I tried out the Sanyo 4050 about a year ago and loved it, but went for the Garmin 360 because it had Bluetooth and audible turn directions, speaking the name of the street (better than 'turn right', because your eyes don't have to leave the road). I didn't even try the photo or music mode as they also were not 'highlighted.' Again, I repeatedly was unable to raise any response from Sanyo. Again, Amazon came through like the pros they are. Steve not only sold me the Garmin 760, but sold me several accessories which I would have regretted not getting later, as they did not come with the Garmin 760, especially the memory card for pictures of my grandchildren. Steve could not have been more helpful. I spoke with Steve and received the kind of customer service that you only dream about with many on line companies (or major brick and steel corporations).
Sadly the Sanyo 4070 failed out of the box. I suppose, if he had, I probably would not have purchased the Garmin right now, as it cost a little more than the Sanyo. I sent it back to Amazon who sent me a replacement even before the first one reached them (what great customer service). It downloaded my cell phone book seamlessly. Sanyo has now come out with the amazing 4070 Easy Street (or will be when Sanyo gets some quality control) with the perks that the 4050 did not have, so I ordered one from Amazon, which I received in record time - two days.
Alas, I regret to report that the replacement was also defective. Signed, a faithful Amazon customer Semper Fi. Sanyo Easy Street 4070 GPS 'will be' a great GPS navigation system WHEN Sanyo gets their quality control working. Audible turn directions did not work, it would not connect to my cell, and when I tried to type my street address, after two letters, it jumped to the street beginning with those two letters.
Without 'selling' me, Steve answered all of my questions about the new Garmin 760 (It's due to arrive tomorrow.
